Delhi High Court directs Centre, AIIMS to give quota to acid attack victims under RPWD Act

The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to give reservation to victims of acid attacks under Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

This is after the victim of such an attack filed a case in court over the right to employment. Under the Act, survivors of acid attacks are included in the disabled category and are entitled to reservation in jobs under the Physically Handicapped (PH).

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) had issued a fresh notification on 28 January this year asking all central government departments to ensure 1% of each posts be reserved for acid attack survivors as well as people with low vision, deaf and hard of hearing and with locomotor disability.

Each government organisation will have one grievance redressal officer for looking into complaints. The officer is expected to maintain proper records of the complainant and the date of disposal of the grievance.
