Disabled children in Kerala do not have to re-apply for scholarships every year

A thoughtful gesture from the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

The commission has directed all local bodies in the state to keep the records of all disabled children within their jurisdiction. This is so that the children do not have to appear personally before the gram sabha every year to apply for their scholarship.

In another welcome step, the commission has ordered that children do not have to apply for scholarship again and again every year. The scholarships should be given on a single application. It has also said that all ward members should have the exact information of the beneficiaries within their region.

The Local Self-Government Department has directed the Panchayat Director, Urban Affairs Director, and Rural Development Director to implement the order of the commission. The scholarships are to be distributed to all beneficiaries without fail every year.
