A high protein diet makes your child smarter, says new study

It is quite difficult to control the food habits of children from today’s generation. Their love for junk food knows no boundaries. Parents and teachers are aware of the harmful effects of such foods. But are they are able to control those unhealthy habits? It is high-time to move towards a protein rich healthy food. A new study has found out that children who eat protein rich foods are smarter over those who do not consume proteins at all!

The study was conducted by a group of researchers from the Gujarat Forensic Science University (GFSU). More than 50 children, who are aged between 7 to 12 years, were used for the study. They were classified into two groups.

The first one belonged to those who ate protein rich foods like pulses and chicken at least five times a week. The other group of children were mostly on a diet that consisted of leafy vegetables and carbohydrates.

Researchers found out that children from the first group had a quicker response to the brain’s Evoke Related Potential (ERP) than the second group. This response time was 80-100 milliseconds slower in the second group. Some of them even had a zero response. That means, kids in the first group were smarter to respond to situations!

Experts tell parents to add more proteins in the diet of their young ones. This includes more of dal, milk, pulses, chicken and eggs.
