Making weekend plans? Watch out for heavy rains in Mumbai, says weather bureau

Mumbai and nearby areas can expect more rain from Saturday.

The weather bureau has predicted intermittent rain with heavy spells on Saturday and Sunday for Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad and Thane.

This is due to the formation of a low pressure area over north-west Bay of Bengal, two upper air cyclonic circulations, one over Chhattisgarh and the other over south Gujarat. These weather systems will lead to heavy rain through the week.

This year, the rainfall has been heavy on the weekend in Mumbai. The city recorded 164mm rain during that weekend.

On 24 June, Mumbai recorded its third highest all-time rainfall for the day at 231.4mm rain. In the first five weeks of this monsoon, Mumbai has recorded 1669.2mm rain as against 2260mm rain (74%) for four months of the monsoon season.
