Rapist of 7 month old gets death sentence in Rajasthan
A rape accused in Rajasthan has become the first person to get death sentence for his crime. This is the first death sentence given under the new law of the state that allows death sentence for rape convicts when the survivor is a minor under the age of 12.
The 19 year old rapist has been sentenced to death for raping a seven-month-old baby.
Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are the two states in India that have passed the law for giving death punishment to rapist of minors under the age of 12.
In the current case, the accused had taken the baby away from a relative who was babysitting the child on May 9. The baby was later found crying in a football field, about a kilometer away from home in Laxmangarh, Rajasthan.
The baby was then admitted in Alwar hospital and had to stay there for 20 days. The accused was arrested later and medical examination confirmed rape was committed.
The case was heard in a fast-track court and the hearings were completed in 13 sittings of the court.
