School children in drought-hit states to get midday meals during vacation
India is suffering a massive drought in almost 40% of its districts. The government has announced that school children in 228 drought-hit districts across nine states will continue to be get midday meals during the school vacation.
This will benefit over 25 million children in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
Most of the people affected by the drought are poor farmers who are dependent on agriculture. The midday meals served to school children during the vacation will provide major relief to these families who are struggling to make a living in these hard times..
