Free cab rides to elderly, disabled people through August in Coimbatore!

If you live in Coimbatore, you could not have missed the sight of Sarathi. This is a taxi service, exclusively for people with disabilities and the elderly launched over a year ago.

They have something special for everyone in Coimbatore right through the month of August. Its free rides for disabled people and the elderly, to celebrate India’s 72nd Independence Day. The rides will be within Coimbatore city limits!

Sarathi is the venture of NGO Swarga Foundation, which works to empower people with disabilities in the city by improving access to basic amenities like public toilets, schools and police stations. The NGO was founded by J Swarnalatha, and her husband Guruprasad T S. The Swarga Foundation team says it is thrilled to celebrate Independence Day in such a meaningful manner.

Our services are for people who have mobility issues and senior citizens who are tied up at home due to lack of transport facilities. We began free rides last evening. We hope this service will benefit many people - Anand Selvaraj, Coordinator, Swarga Foundation

The Tata Winger of Sarathi comes equipped with features that make it a dream ride. These are foldable ramps so people on wheelchairs can board with ease, facilities to lock wheelchairs in the vehicle, a sofa-cum-cot for companions, a small water tank and a chemical toilet with a swivel feature. There is even an LED TV with a music player to take the boredom of long drives or endless traffic jams!

If you are a disabled person living in Coimbatore or are visiting here in August, you can book a cab from 8 am to 8 pm on all days of this month.
