Mumbai beach face scare due to attacks by blue bottle jellyfish
The famous Juhu beach in Mumbai is currently forbidden for people due to the presence of blue bottle jellyfish also known as Portuguese man-of-war.
Around 100 people have suffered injuries so far due to the sting of the blue bottle jellyfish. The injury spot where the jellyfish stung the beach goers became red and pained a lot.
The attack of the jellyfish has been reported on people at the Juhu and Aksa beaches, this has resulted in widespread panic and fear.
Blue bottle jellyfish are generally seen in Mumbai, during the mid-monsoon season. This year they have arrived at the Mumbai beaches in large numbers.
The jellyfish are venomous and have long tentacles and cause immense pain when they sting.
Experts state that the pain can be reduced a little by soaking the wound in warm water for up to 30 minutes. Painkillers like paracetamol and ibuprofen can help. New research suggests washing the wounds with dilute vinegar.
