Stress kills CRPF personnel more than combat operations
More soldiers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are dying due to stress as compared to combat operations. This is according to a statement made by the Minister of State for Home Hansraj G Ahir in the Lok Sabha.
The statement said that heart attacks, depression and suicides claims 15 times more lives of CRPF jawans as compared to those who die in anti-Maoist operations.
A total of 1,294 CRPF personnel were killed between 2016 and July 2018. While only 85 troops died in operations in the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Maharashtra.
In 2017, 156 CRPF personnel died due to heart attack, 38 because of depression and suicide and 435 due to other non-operational reasons.
The Centre has planned various measures to boost their morale. Apart from this, specialized training and modern equipment are being provided to personnel operating under adverse conditions.
Extra allowances and incentives to personnel stationed in anti-Naxal operations will also be given. Basic amenities like proper accommodation, medical facilities, gallantry awards, rewards and appreciations, will also be given.
