Blue light from mobile phones can cause blindness, says new study

So here is one more reason to stop checking your phone every ten minutes. A new study has revealed that the blue light which is emitted from your smart phones and other digital devices can actually speed up blindness. You heard that right!

According to a group of researchers from the United States, this blue light transforms the vital molecules of the eye’s retina into cell killers inside the eye.

Macular Degeneration is an eye condition that usually hits a person during their sixties. It is caused due to the death of photoreceptor cells in the retina. Molecules called retinal help to trigger and identify light which later signals the brain. This blue light kills the photoreceptor cells causing something similar to a Macular Degeneration.

Also, cornea of the eyes or its lens is unable to block the constant exposure to the blue light from devices. Once they stop functioning, it is quite impossible to revive them.

While some mobile companies add blue filter to their phones, most of them don’t. Planning to buy a new phone? Get all the facts checked!
