Shelter homes in Madhya Pradesh will now be under government scanner
Recently, there has been a rise in incidents of sexual abuse and harassments against inmates of shelter homes. Most of the times, the cases charged against owners and concerned officials go into deaf ears.
The Madhya Pradesh police have now formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the sexual abuse case registered against the owner of a shelter home for disabled girls. The owner Ashwini Sharma has already been arrested by the police. Apart from the four disabled girls who alleged abuse from Sharma, a 19 year old has also came forward to talk about her wrath! Sharma was produced at a Bhopal court after a deaf girl alleged sexual abuse in his hands.
The shelter home was started by Sharma in 2016. The state Women and Child Welfare Department funded the home which had 21 inmates.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan held a high level meeting regarding the matter. He told concerned officials that strict action must be taken against such criminals. All shelter homes at Madhya Pradesh will now be under scanner.
