Maneka Gandhi seeks education loans at special rates for the girl child

Union minister Maneka Gandhi has sought education loans on concessional rates for girl children in an effort to promote their education.

In a note to Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani, Gandhi said that girls are often denied higher education because parents do not wish to take a loan for their education. Lower rates of interest on loans for them could thus act as a small incentive. Other options are also being explored.

Maneka Gandhi has also send a request to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in this regard. The minister had earlier introduced the popular 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' scheme.
