Prime Minister Narendra Modi promises a manned space mission from India by 2022
On the eve of India’s 72nd Independence Day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that India is on the right path to success. He has also promised that India will launch its first manned space mission by 2022!
In his speech at Red Fort in New Delhi, he said that India will send a son or daughter to space by 2022 or even before that. Gaganyaan will carry India’s flag to space making India the fourth nation to send a human to space. United States of America, Russia and China have already sent their people to space.
This Human Spaceflight Programme (HSP) has been in the pipeline since 2004. There are umpteen technical glitches that India has to cross in order to send a human to space. Our researchers and scientists have been working on this project for long.
Currently, our scientists are working on a Two-Stage-to-Orbit (TSTO) fully reusable launch vehicle. This space mission can carry two to three people until the low orbit. Rs 145 crore has already been sanctioned for this. With Modi assuring a manned space mission, more funds are expected to flow in for the project which will need at least Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 crore!
