Over 50 people dead in bus accident in Telangana
At least 50 people lost their lives and several others were injured when their bus went off road and fell in a gorge in Telangana. The dead bodies recovered so far include those of 25 women and seven children.
The state-owned Road Transport Corporation bus was full of pilgrims coming back from the Anjaneya Swamy temple in Kondagattu in the hills of Telangana’s Jagtiyal district.
As per reports, around 60 people were travelling in the bus at the time. It is speculated that the brake failure caused the driver to lose the control of the bus on the crowded road.
The number of dead may rise as search and rescue operations continue. Many of those injured are also critical.
The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of people who died.
