October 23, 2018
Meera Yadav, wife of Ramesh Yadav, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council has been charged with murder.
Police say that she killed her stepson, 23-year-old son Abhijeet, in a fit of anger. Meera apparently confessed to he strangling him. Abhijeet was found dead in his flat on Sunday. Initial reports were that he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Meera Yadav told relatives and neighbours that her son had come back drunk late and was restless through the night. She applied some balm on his chest when he complained of a pain in his left arm. He never got up, she told everyone.
Abhijeet's body was being taken for cremation when the police stepped in. A senior police officer ordered an autopsy which confirmed strangling as the cause of death. Meera, who is Ramesh Yadav's second wife, kept changing her story, which made the police suspicious.
She has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
Ramesh Yadav is in shock and said, "I am not aware of the situation that led to his death. We are all in shock because there was no dispute in the family". UP Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and former CM Akhilesh Yadav expressed their condolences to the family.
Police say that Abhijeet misbehaved with her while he was drunk, which made her angry. Meera Yadav had left her job in the tourism department and was living with Abhijeet and another son, Abhishek.
