Specialcare Holidays needs no introduction to disabled travel enthusiasts in India. This Kochi-based start-up has been organizing holidays exclusively for disabled people.

This venture is owned and run by Simon George, who is a wheelchair user, who understands the needs of people with disabilities completely. He also knows what a challenge holidays can be given the lack of accessible places in India.

It is this that led him to start Specialcare Holidays. They are gearing up for their next holiday in Kerala. This time, disabled people will be given an exclusive space to watch the world famous Alappuzha Nehru Trophy Boat Race. Specialcare, in collaboration with the Kerala government, has set up an accessible space at the venue.

The boat race is happening at Alappuzha which is renowned for its plush greens and serene backwaters. It is a sight not to be missed. The event is happening on 10 November.

Specialcare will also take people on a 10-day sightseeing trip to places like Munnar which is a hill station, Kochi known as the Queen of Arabian Sea and other parts of Kerala as well.

Disabled people must also enjoy vacations because the entertainment world is for people with disabilities as well. But due to lack of accessible and disabled friendly places, most of them are unable to travel. What we are aiming is at inclusion. People with all kinds of disabilities must be able to do things on their own, even travel on their own! The Kerala government has been extremely supportive in setting up a space for disabled people at Nehru Trophy boat race venue. This is the first time, and we hope disabled people will have a great time watching this world famous event in front of their eyes- Simon George, Founder, Specialcare Holidays.

Simon adds that disabled people from across India are welcome to experience Kerala. He will ensure that they are picked up from the airport with the help of a coordinator. According to Simon, this is yet another way of experiencing the beauty of being independent.

What make Specialcare Holidays popular among disabled travellers are the facilities that they offer. Accessible vehicles, wheelchair ramps, Braille scripts, mobile lifts and disabled friendly toilets are some of them.

Jayakrishnan V is a regular traveller. He is the coordinator of the Wheelchair User’s Association in Kerala.

“When it comes to travelling, wheelchair users have very limited options. That is where Specialcare Holidays have come to our help. They have some great accessibility features. It is a great effort by Simon and team. I will be joining them for their upcoming Kerala tour. I cannot wait to watch the Nehru Trophy boat race. I have watched it on television. But experiencing it in front of my eyes is going to be a real treat”, says Jayakrishnan.

This tour is from 8-18 November. You can reach Special Care Holidays at info@specialcareholidays.com. Login to www.specialcareholidays.com for more details. You can also call them at 8129601425 or 9446806296.
