Congress backs Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh over Sidhu
December 4, 2018
Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has played down the controversy over his differences with Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and said he would sort out the row, one-on-one.
While campaigning in Rajasthan, Sidhu called Singh a "fatherly figure".
You don't want to wash dirty linen in public. He is a fatherly figure, I love him, I respect him, I will sort it out myself. - Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab Congress leader
Sidhu also attacked the BJP and said that the Modi government was a puppet in the hands of big industry houses.
"Modi government is a puppet in the hands of big industrialists. There is nothing for the poor. It's only for Ambani and Adani."
Sidhu and Amarinder Singh have been at war since Singh's visit to Pakistan for the Kartarpur corridor project and his ignoring the advice of the Punjab Chief Minister. Singh too got an invite but did not go. He accused Pakistan of continuing to sponsor terror attacks in Punjab and said Sidhu should not travel either.
Soon after returning home, Sidhu called Rahul Gandhi his captain. This was seen as a dig at Amarinder Singh. Many people targeted him saying the remark was disrespectful of the chief minister and that he should be removed from the Punjab Cabinet.
