A soldier of the Indian Army has been arrested for allegedly killing a police inspector by the name of Subodh Singh in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr. He was arrested on Sunday and handed over to the UP Police for investigation.

Abhishek Singh, senior superintendent of police, Special Task Force, told the media that a preliminary probe has been done.

He (Malik) accepted he was there when the crowd started gathering and it has been found true. It’s not yet clear if he is the one who shot the inspector. He said he went there with villagers, but denied throwing stones on the police. Forensic (examination) of his mobile will be done,. - Abhishek Singh, Special Task Force

The soldier, Jeetendra Malik, also known as Jeetu Fauji was brought to Meerut by his unit in Sopore, Kashmir. He was then handed over to the special investigation team investigating the killing of the inspector in the violence that broke out in Bulandshahr over alleged illegal cow slaughter.

Video recordings showed the soldier firing during the violence that led to the death of the inspector and a young man.

Malik’s wife Priyanka has alleged that her husband was being framed as they were in a market when the violence broke out. His brother Dharmendra Malik, who is also in the army, has also said that his brother has been framed.
