Kamal Nath will be Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister
December 14, 2018
After days of speculation and suspense, Congress party has announced that Kamal Nath will be the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
Kamal Nath is a senior Congress leader and has been elected a Lok Sabha MP nine times. Congress party won 114 seats in the state in the recent assembly elections and has the required majority to form the government with the support of Bahujan Samaj Party- BSP.
However, Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia were both being seen as candidates for the post of Chief Minister.
Younger generation of party workers wanted Scindia as the CM but the decision was ultimately left to party President Rahul Gandhi. Seniority seems to have taken precedence and Kamal Nath will be sworn in as the state Chief Minister.
A similar decision is yet pending in Rajasthan where senior congress leader Ashok Gehlot and young leader Sachin Pilot both are in the race for the post of Chief Minister.
Here are some responses of social media users to the selection of Nath as CM.
