Prithvi Shaw ruled out of India-Australia Test series

Promising young opener Prithvi Shaw has been totally ruled out of the Test series between India and Australia. It is a sad end to what was expected to be a great overseas debut series.

Shaw, who is from Mumbai, has been ruled out for the entire Test series after he missed the first two Tests due to an ankle injury. He got injured while fielding during a practice match in Sydney.

Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal has been called up to join the team ahead of the third Test, which starts on 26 December in Melbourne. Hardik Pandya will also join the side ahead of the next two matches.

Shaw has had a great start to his Test career with his 100 runs against West Indies in his first Test.

This is how the BCCI announced the change. "hardikpandya7 and @mayankcricket added to #TeamIndia's Test squad.".

This is not good news for India as openers K L Rahul and Murali Vijay have not done well so far. The board was hoping that Shaw would get better before his third Test. He landed on his ankle in an awkward way while trying to catch the ball.

Indian cricket fans were understandable upset with the setback. Vikrant Gupta tweeted, "Bad blow for India: Prithvi Shaw ruled out of the Test series".

Well-known cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle commented:

Feel for young Prithvi Shaw. But his time will come. Wish him well, he is a terrific prospect. - Harsha Bhogle, Cricket commentator
