India’s Mary Kom tops world rankings in boxing

In November 2018, Mary Kom had become the first woman boxer to win six world championship titles in boxing. Now, she has been ranked number one by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) in the light fly (45-48 kg) category. The 35 year old tops her weight division with 1700 points. 22 year old boxer Hanna Okhota from Ukraine is ranked in the second position with 1100 points.

By reaching on the number one position, Kom beat Ireland's Katie Taylor.
Mary Kom who hails from Manipur has brought many laurels and recognitions to India at international games. She is popularly known as magnificent Mary and was the only Indian women boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Olympics. She is married to Onler Kom and has three children. Her biopic Mary Kom starring Priyanka Chopra in the lead role was a box office hit. She is also a member of the Rajya Sabha.
