India-Australia series - Karthik dropped
February 17, 2019
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian side for the T20I and ODI series against Australia. Captain Virat Kohli is back after being rested for the final two ODIs and T20I series against New Zealand.
K L Rahul, who missed the Australia series, is back after a couple of goof performances against England Lions. Rahul was in the dock for making sexist remarks about women in a TV talk show, after which he was asked to focus on domestic cricket.
Mumbai Indians' player Mayank Markande has been called-up for the two-match T20I series as well. He played well in the series against England Lions. Rishabh Pant has also made a return while Dinesh Karthik has been dropped.
Meanwhile former Australian player Shane Warne has said that Pant should open the innings with Rohit Sharma, an idea that was backed by cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.
There has been talk if Rishabh Pant can play in the side. I think Dhoni and Pant both can play. I can't see why Rishabh Pant can't play as a batsman, he is outstanding. I know Shikhar Dhawan does a great job but Rishabh Pant opening the batting with Rohit Sharma could be pretty cool too for India. Go with some of these X-factor type things and tactical battles, where you surprise the opposition. - Shane Warne, Former Australian cricketer
To which Gavaskar said Pant can bat anywhere in the Indian batting order and if he manages to do well at the top, he would be another option.
