Social media accounts of Wing Commander Abhinandan are fake

The Indian Air Force has issued a clarification for social media users in the country about Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

As per the IAF, Wing Commander Abhinandan does not have a social media account and is not active on any of the social networking portals or websites.

The IAF issued a statement for users on twitter that they need to stay alert of any fake accounts on social media that claim to be that of Abhinandan.

Indian Air Force tweet said

#FAKE ACCOUNTS : Wg Cdr Abhinandan Varthaman does not have a social media account on any portal (Facebook /Instagram /Twitter). Please avoid following any fake accounts being used in the name of any IAF Airwarrior for spreading misinformation. Jai Hind!!!

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman became a national hero when he was captured by Pakistani forces last week.

Abhinandan Varthaman was taken in custody by the Pakistani army after his MiG 21 Bison jet crashed in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir area on 27 February. He was held captive for almost three days and was later sent back to India.

Since then, several fake accounts in name of Abhinandan have appeared on social media.

Some of the fake accounts have content praising Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

IAF has warned users to remian alert against these account and not to help the fake account creators in spreading propaganda and misinformation.
