Actor Mohanlal, Prabhudeva receive Padma awards

One of the highest civilian honors of the country, the Padma awards were given out to several recipients yesterday by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Padma awards are given out every year to Indian citizens in three catagories- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

This year 112 people were chosen for the honors and 47 of them received their awards in New Delhi yesterday at a function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Rest of the winners including actor Manoj Bajpayee will receive their awards on 16 March.

Some of the recipients this year include Malayalam actor Mohanlal who received the Padma Bhushan.

Mohanlal later tweeted,"I feel quite elated to have been received this great token of appreciation from the Honorable President of India. My sincere thanks and love to all! @rashtrapatibhvn @narendramodi @PMOIndia #PadmaAwards #PadmaBhushan"

Actor-choreographer-director Prabhudeva, singer -musician Shankar Mahadevan, both received Padma Shri, which are given for distinguished service.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia and chess player Harika Dronavalli also received Padma Shri.

Prabhudeva tweeted after receiving the award.

Thanks for all the love you all gave. Your love gave me this award. I dedicate this award to the love you all gave.

Actor Kader Khan who passed away in December 2018 at the age of 81 years was posthumously honored with the Padma Shri.
