Actor turned politician Jaya Prada joins BJP
March 27, 2019
Senior actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Jaya Prada started her political career in 1994 as a member of the Telugu Desam Party, but she left TDP due to differences with Chandrababu Naidu and joined SP.
Jaya Prada was later expelled from the Samajwadi Party in 2014 along with Amar Singh and then formed the Rashtriya Lok Manch. The party failed to make any impact in the 2012 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh assembly.
Later Jaya Prada became a member of the Rashtriya Lok Dal party.
As per reports, as a member of BJP, Jaya Prada contest elections from Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh against Azam Khan of the Samajwadi Party.
"I am a part of national party and I'm in a party, where the leader leads on issues of national security... I'm honoured to work under PM Modi's leadership", Jaya said on joining BJP
In 2004 and 2009, Jaya Prada had won the Lok Sabha seat from the Rampur constituency.
In 2014 she had contested the elections from Bijnor but was defeated by Kunwar Bhartendra of the BJP. Her entry in BJP just before the general elections is being speculated as a clever move.
