Mizoram kid saves chicken, wins hearts on social media

Derek C Lachhanhima, a young boy from Mizoram, is now known across India for an act full of goodness. Derek, who is from Sairang, ran over his neighbour's chicken accidentally while cycling. He did not walk away, instead he rushed with the chicken to a nearby hospital with all the savings he had.

The story was shared on Facebook by a user named Sanga Saysexplaining the incident.

This young boy from Sairang, Mizoram, accidentally ran over his neighbour's chicken with his cycle. He took the chicken, ran to the nearest hospital and with all the money he had, asked for help. (I'm laughing and crying all at the same time). - Sanga Says

The story has gone viral on social media and Derek is getting much love from people across the world. He has even won a certificate of appreciation by his school St Pio in Sairang, located in Mizoram's Aizawl district.

Among those to gush over this little boy is MP Shashi Tharoor. "Campaigning leaves little time for real life -- but this heartwarming story of the little boy who ran over a chicken with his cycle, and took it to hospital with whatever little money he had, deserves to be widely shared even if I have found it late."

The image of Derek holding the chicken on one hand and his savings on the other has been doing the rounds on social media since past few days.

"Always heartening to start your day with a profound story of innocence and kindness, said Tuhin A Sinha an author.

The picture of Derek has received over one lakh likes and 76 thousand shares. While many found the boy's gesture extremely innocent, others could not stop praising the responsible boy.
