Avoid traveling to Sri Lanka, advised MEA
April 29, 2019
In view of the ongoing security issues in the neighboring country of Sri Lanka, Ministry of External Affairs has issued an advisory for Indian citizens.
MEA has advised that Indian nationals should avoid travelling to Sri Lanka and only do so if it's very essential.
The island country is facing a tense situation after terror attacks on Easter Sunday that took the lives of 253 people including 11 Indian nationals and injured over 500. One Indian from Kerala was seriously injured and has returned home after treatment.
Ministry of External Affairs has also instructed that Indians taking a trip to Sri Lanka for work should keep in contact with the local consulates and High Commission of India.
The suicide bombings were carried out by the members of a local terror group and ISIS has claimed the responsibility of inciting the attacks.
The security agencies in Sri Lanka had been pre-warned about the bombings by India, however no action was taken resulting in huge loss of lives. Security has been beefed up in Sri Lanka and the country is under national emergency with night time curfew in place.
Social media users shared their thoughts.
Prabhakaran P†@PPrabhu18 tweeted,Don't you think that this travel advisory should have been issued much earlier than alerting Sri Lankan Authorities of the planned attack?
Sundar Ramaswamy†@SunDudez Did they issue warning against boarding Air India too? All flights delayed!
