Kolkata college offers Humanity option for religion
June 2, 2019
In a welcome gesture, the Bethune College in Kolkata has added a Humanity option under the religious field, which is a compulsory section in admission for new students. Other options include Hinduism, Islam, Christian, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism and others. The college under Calcutta University received a lot of appreciation after the online admission application went viral on social media.
The college committee members pointed out that they decided to add 'Humanity' because there are many students who are reluctant to mention their religion. The move was welcomed by the college alumni and other students as well. Bethune College, which was established in 1879, is reportedly Asia's first women college. In a world where people are waging war against each other in the name of religion, the gesture by Bethune College truly deserves thumbs up.
