Cricket World Cup – New Zealand wins again

June 9, 2019

Afghanistan played an exciting match against New Zealand yesterday in Taunton.

The match went in favour of New Zealand by 7 wickets although Afghanistan put a lot of pressure on them with their bowling line. It is the third straight win for New Zealand and a third straight loss for Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2019.

New Zealand won the toss and decided to let the rivals bat first. Afghanistan ran up a score of 172 runs in 41.1 overs.

Jimmy Neesham said, "Afghanistan put us under pressure very early with the bat, but we knew we had the ability to dent them even after the start they got. The chase was clinical, obviously. Our home conditions are lower and slower, but the bouncy conditions suited me personally to be honest." Neesham won the Player of the Match title.

Afghanistan's star bowler Rashid Khan had to leave the match mid game after a ball by Lockie Ferguson at 138-kph hit his helmet in the 34th over. The medical team suggested rest for the player as he failed concussion tests. Rashid did not come out to bowl in the second innings.

"He has been pulled out as a precaution after being hit on his head while batting," said the International Cricket Council.

Captain of the New Zealand team Kane Williamson made 80 runs off 99 balls with 9 fours.

Indian Cricket fans are eagerly waiting for the game between India and Australia that will be played today afternoon.
