Injured Vijay Shankar is out of World Cup
July 2, 2019
All-rounder Vijay Shankar will not be part of the India squad anymore in the ongoing 2019 ICC world Cup Tournament.
The cricketer has been ruled out of the tournament due to a non-displaced fracture on his left foot which will need around three weeks to heal.
Vijay Shankar had injured his toe before the India Vs England World Cup match on Sunday during practice when he was hit by a Yorker bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. He was replaced by Rishabh Pant in the match.
In his 2019 World Cup journey so far, Vijay scored 58 runs and took two wickets in three matches.
Vijay may now be replaced in the team by Mayank Agarwal. If Mayank Agarwal gets the chance it will be his debut in the One-Day International (ODI) format. He has played 75 List A matches and scored 3,605 runs at an average of 48.71.
Fans shared their disappointment about Vijay Shankar's ouster on social media.
Kevin Pietersen tweeted, Dear Virat & Ravi - please don't drop Vijay Shankar. I think he's coming into his own and would potentially win you tomorrow's game. Don't think about Pant. He needs another 3 weeks prep before I think he can get into your World Cup side. Thanks, boys!
"@PriyaBShankar_ Removed Vijay shankar who atleast gave his contribution with bowling but kedar jadav did nothing getting selected routinely. Give chance to jadeja & dinesh karthik atleast, tweeted Priya Bhavani Shankarâ€.
