Imported Braille paper & embossers will no longer be taxed

Under the current budget, tax on imported Braille paper and embossers has been removed. This was at the initiative of a blind student Chandana Chandrashekhar who had made the request to Rahul Gandhi during an interaction in Bengaluru in November 2015. The student had asked Gandhi if the tax could be removed as it put the items out of the reach of many people. Each Braille print costs Rs 4-5 a page, which makes it costly to get several prints. Gandhi followed it up with the government, which announced that the tax be lifted. Chandrashekhar has asked the government to remove customs duty on other assistive devices as well.
