CCTV recording of jewelry stores to be checked
The Income Tax department has asked jewelers to provide CCTV footage from their shops. This will allow the IT department to trace people who have bought jewelry in the last few days.
People had started buying jewelry when the government announced the ban on the use of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. All jewelry stores across the country have been asked to send their CCTV camera recordings from the night of 8 November onwards.
The state police has also been informed about the action. Since the ban on currency was announced in the country, the price of gold has gone up by 60% as people have been using black money to buy gold.
