Text with 911 initiative to help the deaf in Canada

People with hearing impairments will now be able to communicate by text with 911, an emergency phone number in Saskatchewan, a region in Canada.

Text with 911 is a new initiative that with allow the deaf people to add their phones to a new system.

For example, a deaf person or his family has to register the phone number in the system. When the registered phone calls on 911, the operator will not speak but start a text conversation.

The operator will receive the wireless location and hear any background noises to understand the emergency.
