Visually impaired girl denied employment by Railways despite qualification

28-year-old Pranjal Patil, a visually challenged woman from Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra made it through the UPSC exam in her first attempt.

However, she has been denied a government job although she was told that she would get one with the Indian Railway Accounts Service.

The reason is because now the Railways has claimed that a visually challenged person is not eligible for the job.

Patil cleared the exam with an all-India rank of 773 and got a letter saying that she had been given a job with the IRAS. She was also told that training would begin in December 2016.

But she got no more information and was later told she cannot get the job due to her disability.

She has written to higher officials and plans to approach the courts if no relief is given.
