Babies born premature are more likely to face severe anxiety
Premature babies born with extremely low birth weight face risk of developing both physical and mental health problems at a later stage in life.
These involve attention, anxiety-related and social problems, according to a study in Canada.
Thanks to improvements in health care, babies that weigh less than 1,000 grams at birth have a greater chance of surviving than before. But they were at higher risk of specific mental health problems like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Adults born with extremely low birth weight also show much higher levels of anxiety, depression and shyness.
