9 dead in Delhi fire

On Sunday late night, a fire broke out at New Delhi’s Kirari area. The incident happened at a cloth warehouse in the city. Nine people were killed and ten injured in the incident that happened at around 12.30 am. “Distressing news coming from Delhi. After the Dec 8th fire at anaj mandi that claimed more than 40 lives, now fire in an apparel godown in Kirari has consumed 3 lives. This has to come to a stop, lacunas must be plugged, accountability must be fixed”, tweeted journalist Rupashree Nanda.
The godown was located on the ground floor of a three storey building. The fire officials reached the spot to find charred bodies of the victims. Others were found unconscious and was rushed to nearby Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. Police suspect that the fire must have been caused due to bursting of gas cylinder.
On 8 December, a fire broke out at a factory building in Anaj Mandi area of Delhi. 43 people were killed and over 50 people were injured in the incident. Most of the victims were labourers and their families. The building had no safety measures. The state government had said that they would take precautionary measures in days to come. But the latest fire incident shows the insensitivity and negligence of officials. “Heart goes out to the families of victims of Fire accident incident at one of Delhi‘s shop godown in #Kirari area killing 9 people and leaving several injured. #fireaccident #delhifire”, tweeted Raffles Educity.
