WhatsApp set to start digital payments service in India
Instant messaging app WhatsApp is planning to enter the digital payment services in India.
India is WhatsApp's biggest market with 200 million users. It is planning to start person-to-person payments in India in the next six months.
WhatsApp said it is looking for someone who has a technical and financial background, and understands the BHIM payments app that enable money transfers using mobile numbers.
Digital transactions in India have grown after Prime Minister Modi banned certain high-value bank notes in November that accounted for more than 80% of the country’s currency in circulation at the time.
