Toyota launches robotic walk assist system
Japanese company Toyota Motor Corporation has launched the Welwalk WW-1000 robot for individuals with lower limb paralysis.
The robot has been officially certified and allowed to be used as a medical device.
The company plans to start a rental service for the robotic leg. It also hopes to rent 100 units of the robots to hospitals and medical centres.
The robotic leg has the ability to adjust the difficulty level to suit the patient, provide feedback about the patient’s walking abilities and others.
The company is also developing robots to assist the elderly which will be launched by the end of 2017.
