Theater actor Ramesh Meyyappan believes art comes first despite disability

Ramesh Meyyappan is a 43 year old award-winning actor working in theater and is based in Singapore. He is proud of his disability and believes in the quality of his art.

He does not let the audience know beforehand that he is hearing impaired and wants to be acknowledged for his acting skills first.

He only reveals his disability after a performance so that the audience can focus on the art and not his disability. Most people are surprised to know that he is deaf when the show ends.

Earlier this year, he took part in a forum on arts and disability in Singapore and spoke about art being independent of barriers.

Meyyappan currently does critically acclaimed solo shows and makes himself heard on the stage with his visual storytelling performances.
