Amazon’s Just Walk Out Technology is a new method for consumers to shop in a grocery store. Consumers can use an app to enter the Amazon Go grocery store and then they can take anything they want from the shelves. They don’t have to stand in line for a cashier, instead all they have to do is put back what they don’t want and walk out of the store.

This technology uses computer vision, deep learning algorithms, and sensor fusion.

How does this technology work?

As a shopper if you opt for Just Walk Out shopping, you can enter the store in either of the following three ways:

  1. Scan the QR code in your Amazon app
  2. Use Amazon One to scan your palm
  3. Inserting a credit or debit card linked to your Amazon account.

Once inside the store, your purchases are automatically added to your virtual cart. If you take something off the shelf and put it back, it will be taken out of your virtual cart. At the end of your trip, you shop with Just Walk Out by scanning or inserting your entry method again to exit.

How does this technology help the disabled community?

The Amazon Just Walk Out technology is a revolutionary step for the disabled community. It allows customers to shop at a physical store without any manual help. The technology works by using a smartphone app and a QR code linked to their Amazon account. When customers enter the store, they need only to scan the QR code on the shelf, and the phone will automatically add that product into his/her cart with all details such as price, name, size etc. After shopping is done, users can simply walk out of the store with no hassle.

The future of shopping

Previously, Amazon only offered Just Walk Out at its Amazon Go and Amazon Go Grocery stores in the United States and the Amazon Fresh store in West London. Now, however, it has 22 locations (with five temporarily closed) in Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Seattle that range in size from 1,200 to 2,700 square feet.

The future of retail is changing quickly. The idea of being able to walk into a store, grab what you want, and just walk out has been around for some time now, but it is finally becoming a reality with Amazon’s new Just Walk out Technology.
