Chidambaram bail plea rejected

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram who is currently lodged in the Tihar Jail will be staying there for some more time now as his bail application has been denied.
On Monday, Delhi High Court refused to grant bail to P Chidambaram in the INX Media case. The court said that there was a high probability of influencing the witnesses, if Chidambaram is out of jail as he is an influential person.
74-year-old Congress leader P Chidambaram has been in the jail after he was arrested on 21 August and sent to judicial custody on 5 September. He will now apply for bail to the Supreme Court.
While in jail Chidambaram has been active on social media and this was tweeted from his account yesterday. “I have asked my family to tweet on my behalf the following:- The sound of drums has faded. Will the powers that be now listen to the cry of workers who have been laid off or lost their jobs forever? According to a report, 1 lakh workers in the Diamond industry in Surat.”
Chidambaram has been accused of irregularities in the FIPB clearance that was granted to the INX Media group and allowed them to receive overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007. Chidambaram was the finance minister of the country at that time.
The FIR in the case was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in May 2017 and later the Enforcement Directorate(ED) also lodged a money laundering case in this regard.
Reacting to the news, Utkarsh Anand tweeted, “ 40 days and counting…#Delhi High Court refuses bail to #PChidambaram in the #INXMediaCase. The judge denies bail specifically on the ground of possibility of influencing witnesses, seriousness of alleged offences.”
