September 18, 2019
Two weeks back, a law student from a college in Uttar Pradesh had alleged that BJP leader Chinmayanand had sexually assaulted her. Reportedly, Chinmayanand was the head of the management of the college in which the girl was studying. The 23 year old victim had given a detailed statement to the Special Investigation Team regarding the incidents where she was repeatedly assaulted for over a year. After giving a recorded statement in the court for over five hours, the court has refused to take any action against the accused. The victim has now demanded swift action against Chinmayanand. This had sparked quite an outrage on social media too.
"Has the Police lodged any FIR till now or not? If not, then why? Who is saving him? "Chinmayanand rape case: Shahjahanpur student gives pen drive with 43 videos to Special Investigation Team", tweeted Bhavika Kapoor.
The SIT had denied accusations of protecting Chinmayanand who has been booked for kidnap and rape of the 23 year old girl. The accused had already been questioned for over 72 hours by the SIT.
A few weeks back, the victim had posted a video of accusing Chinmayanand of sexually assaulting her while she was studying at the college hostel. A few hours after the video went viral, the girl had gone missing raising many questions. But she returned back in a couple of days. "What will it take to arrest this rape-accused BJP leader Chinmayanand? Is there any Rule of Law in India? Where is the #MeToo movement?", tweeted professor Ashok Swain.
