Shivakumar tweeted after the arrest, "I congratulate my BJP friends for finally being successful in their mission of arresting me. The IT and ED cases against me are politically motivated and I am a victim of BJP's politics of vengeance and vendetta."
Karnataka Congress called for a state-wide bandh on Wednesday to protest against the arrest of its senior leader. Several protest and demonstration took place in the state after the news of Shivakumar's arrest broke and stone pelting on government buses was also reported.
As a precautionary measure the district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Kanakapura.
Congress party also took to twitter to express displeasure over the recent developments.
"We strongly condemn the high-handed tactics & vendetta politics being deployed against Congress leaders. The arrest of Shri @DKShivakumar is yet another attempt by the govt to distract the public from their failed policies & the sorry state of the economy."
