The trailer of Deepika Padukone’s upcoming movie ‘Chhapaak’ has been released. Deepika is playing the role of an acid attack survivor ‘Malti’ in the film that also stars Vikrant Massey and Meghna Gulzar has directed the movie.

The Deepika Padukone reportedly started crying after she saw the trailer. “She hasn’t seen the completed [trailer] before so it’s…overwhelming,” said director Meghna Gulzar.

Prosthetic make-up has been used in the movie to show  Deepika’s transformation after the acid attack.

Deepika Padukone interacted with media during the launch and reportedly said to a journalist, “The words ‘darr lagna’, that’s very wrong. We shouldn’t use that vocabulary.”
She said this after the journalist said that it was scary to see her as an acid attack survivor in the trailer.

Deepika also tweeted,” Rarely do you come across a story where you do not need an entire narration to decide if you want to be a part of a film or not. What is even more rare is to not be able to articulate and put into words what you feel for the film and it’s journey….”

Rangoli, sister of actor Kangana Ranaut tweeted “Meghna, Deepika will earn a lot of tears from this film, what my family and I went through…was worse than death… story of an acid attack survivor need to reach this nation.” Rangoli herself is an acid-attack survivor.

‘Chhapaak’ is based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal, who was attacked with acid in 2005 by a man who was miffed over her rejection of his advances. ‘Chhapaak’ is set for a release on 10 January 2020. Watch the trailer here: Chhapaak Trailer
