Delhi based NGO’s ‘Scooty Rally’ for awareness about universal accessibility

Koshish 4 Special People is a Delhi based non-profit organization that aims to empower the disabled community. The NGO has been working to create awareness to bridge the social and mental gaps in our society and create inclusion for people with disabilities. As part of its efforts, Koshish 4 Special People had recently organized a ‘Scooty Rally’ for people with disabilities in Delhi.
The aim of the Scooty Rally was to raise awareness in people about universal accessibility for people with disabilities.
Koshish 4 Special People’s Scooty Rally was able to make an impact on people when they saw disabled people moving around the city. The rally was an eye opener for most people who think that people with disabilities cannot be independent.
Disabled people hardly ever get the opportunity to go out and enjoy like others. The rally was a great opportunity for us to see the city and for the people to know about our lives. Many people came up to us and appreciated the way our group followed the traffic rules and rode effortlessly. I am happy that we were able to show that nothing is impossible for people with disabilities and we are also an equal part of the society. Rohit Mathur, rally participant

Around 30 people rode on their scooty’s and visited landmark places in Delhi such as the India Gate, Wonder Park and many more. Despite heavy pollution, the riders had a great time sightseeing the famous places of the national capital.
Mufliha Mohammad Ali, a student from Delhi also shared her experience with Newz Hook.
“I am so happy that I participated in the rally had an extremely pleasant day. We saw so many amazing places and being a part of a group added to the fun. We enjoyed the food, the company and the overall experience awesome. I have made some very cherish able memories and hope that in future also we will be able to have such trips.”
‘Koshish 4 Special People’ was founded in 2006 and has more than 600 registered members. The NGO provides guidance, support to people with disabilities and helps them through problems in various aspects of life such as education, rehab, employment, skill development etc. what makes the NGO more effective is the fact that it is run by people with disabilities and they have better understanding of the struggles faced by disabled community.
Gurmeet Singh, President of Koshish 4 Special People says, ”This rally was organized for the awareness of complete accessibility for the disabled. The society believes that all places should be accessible so that the Divyang people can have access. But we believe that things should be so accessible that they can reach the differently-abled. Why not allow disabled people to do jobs from home? Why should not the education be given to disabled person feel where they are comfortable? Why don’t government officials come and meet with the differently-abled people and solve the problem. When this happens, in reality, accessibility will come only.”
