September 10, 2019
A giant statue of a dinosaur that was under construction near the Statue of Unity in Gujarat collapsed on Sunday.
The 30-feet-tall dinosaur was being built at the Sadhu-Bet Island in Gujarat by the government to attract more tourists. As per reports, the construction cost of the dinosaur statue is around 2 crore rupees.
Fortunately no casualties or injuries have been reported in the collapse of the massive structure.
Statue of Unity is a 182 meters tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Home Minister and is the world's tallest statue. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October last year.
Several social media users have raised questions about the purpose of constructing a dinosaur model near the already famous Statue of Unity. The cost of the project and shoddy work by the makers has also raised many questions.
Geet V tweeted,"What's the logic of installing a Tyrannosaurus Rex near a statue of Sardar Patel?"
"Lot many examples of wasting public money available and many more in the making," tweeted another user Mahesh Engineer
Interestingly India's first Dinosaur-Museum-cum-Park is also located in Gujarat in the Raiyoli village of Mahisagar district.
