Doctor killed in mob attack at Assam

In a shocking incident, a 73 year old doctor Deven Dutta from Assam was killed by a mob. Reportedly, he was not present when a temporary worker of a tea plantation died at the hospital. An infuriated mob thrashed and attacked the doctor once he returned back to the hospital. More than 20 people have been arrested in connection with the mob attack. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was declared brought dead to the hospital.

According to reports, 33 year old Somra Majhi who was working as a temporary employee at a tea plantation was brought to the hospital on Saturday in critical condition. Since the doctor was absent, the nurse gave her first aid but failed to bring her back to life. This angered other plantation workers who attacked Dutta when he returned back in the evening. Dutta, who is a senior most doctor, had already retired. But he had extended his service at the tea plantation where the incident happened.
The Indian Medical Association confirmed that they will go on a strike on Tuesday and will not work even for emergency services. The West Bengal Doctor's Forum also condemned the brutal attack on Dutta.
