Ex Minister Arun Jaitley is no more

Former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley died yesterday at the AIIMS hospital in New Delhi.
He was 66 years old and was admitted in the hospital on 9 August due to complaints of breathlessness and uneasiness.
For the last few days he had been put on a life support system. Jaitley is survived by his wife and two children, Rohan and Sonali, both lawyers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is currently on a foreign tour spoke to Jaitley's wife and son to offer his condolences.
PM Narendra Modi tweeted,"With the demise of Arun Jaitley Ji, I have lost a valued friend, whom I have had the honour of knowing for decades. His insight on issues and nuanced understanding of matters had very few parallels. He lived well, leaving us all with innumerable happy memories. We will miss him!"
Arun Jaitley was a well-respected politician and also a lawyer by profession. He was a close confidant of PM Modi and took care of the finance and defence portfolios during the first term of the Modi government. Due to his fragile health he did not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
In 2018, Arun Jaitley had underwent a Kidney transplant operation and was later diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and had to stay for months in New York for treatment.
Several people including politicians from various political parties took to social media to express their grief.
"Deeply saddened by Arun Jaitley's death. His death is a personal loss for me. I have not just lost a senior party colleague but also a member of my family, who guided me for several years," tweeted Home Minister Amit Shah.
Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister tweeted, "Extremely saddened at the passing away of Arun Jaitley Ji, after a battle bravely borne." Calling him an outstanding Parliamentarian and a brilliant lawyer, Mamata added, "His contribution to Indian polity will be remembered."
Sports minister Kiran Rijiju tweeted, "Extremely saddened to learn the passing away of @arunjaitley ji. His death is a personal loss for me. Arun ji was a brilliant lawyer and a great parliamentarian. He will be missed & remembered for his warmth & wit. My heartfelt condolences to his family and supporters."
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the tragic passing of my friend and Delhi University senior Arun Jaitley... Despite political differences we enjoyed a healthy mutual respect."
The last rites of Arun Jaitley will be held today afternoon at New Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat.
