Ex minister, lawyer Ram Jethmalani dies at 95

Former Union Minister and senior Supreme Court lawyer Ram Jethmalani died yesterday at his residence in Delhi. He was 95 years old and had been ill for the past few days.
Jethmalani was the Law Minister and the Minister of Urban Affairs in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted," In the passing away of Shri Ram Jethmalani Ji, India has lost an exceptional lawyer and iconic public figure who made rich contributions both in the Court and Parliament. He was witty, courageous and never shied away from boldly expressing himself on any subject."
As a lawyer, Ram Jethmalani had been associated with some very high profile and controversial cases during his career such as defending Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi's assassins.He had also represented Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin encounter case and Manu Sharma in the Jessica Lal murder case. Jethmalani had also represented Kanimozhi, daughter of former Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi, in the 2G scam case and other politicians like LK Advani, Lalu Prasad Yadav, J Jayalalitha and Arvind Kejriwal.
Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, "Deeply pained to know about the passing away of India's veteran lawyer and former Union Minister Shri Ram Jethmalani ji. In him we have not only lost a distinguished lawyer but also a great human who was full of life."
Ram Jethmalani was cremated yesterday evening at the Lodhi Road crematorium in Delhi. He is survived by a son and daughter.
