Farmers call for peaceful nation-wide Bharat Bandh today

As farmer protests intensifies in Delhi with government not ready to agree to demands of farmers, a nation-wide Bharat Bandh has been called for today. Farmers urged that the bandh must be a peaceful one to be held between 11 am to 3 pm.
Harinder Singh Lakhowal, general secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Singh had earlier stated that members from farmer unions will block national highways and toll plazas too. But certain activities like shops, emergency services, weddings and people commuting for work will not be stopped.
As more than 51 trade and transport unions came out in support of farmers, truck services across the country will be disrupted. This would continue if the government does not agree to farmer demands. Fruits and vegetable sale in various parts of the country, especially Delhi and Maharashtra, has been affected over past one week.
Some cab and taxi services in Tamil Nadu are supporting farmer’s protest due to which there will be a shortage of vehicles in the state for commuters. Certain bank unions called for a black band protest to show their support.
Most of the opposition parties across India have extended their support towards the Bandh. Punjab, where farmer protests originated is likely to witness a full-day bandh. Farmers called for protestors to not disrupt traffic or normal life.
The Bandh is organized a day ahead of the sixth meeting between government and farmers.
